Salty Swag Designs

Planning our fourth cruise to Bermuda, we wanted to do something different. We’d already swum with dolphins on our honeymoon and sipped Dark & Stormys on glass-bottom boats. We’ve sunk our toes into the pink sands of Horseshoe Bay and explored our favorite spot, Tobacco Bay Beach in St. George’s.

Of course, we never skip a visit to the Frog and Onion Pub! But this time, we were looking for an experience unlike anything we’d done on the island before.

The Search for a Unique Bermuda Experience

I spent months scouring the internet for that elusive “something unique.” While a cruise to Bermuda is exciting in itself, I wanted a special memory for my husband and me—something that would stick with us for years to come.

Finally, about nine months after booking, I found it: A Bermuda Beach Bonfire with Dark and Stormy Cocktails. Neither of us had ever enjoyed a bonfire on the beach, let alone in Bermuda. It checked every box: it was different, it involved local cocktails, and it sounded incredibly relaxing.

The Excursion: Expectations vs. Reality

The listing for this Bermuda cruise shore excursion specified a “max of 15 per group.” I expected a nice, small gathering on a quiet beach.

However, we were in for a wonderful surprise. As it turned out, the “max of 15” referred to the size of your private party. On the night of our excursion, it was just me and “The Hubster” on a private stretch of sand.

Our tour operator, Bermuda Explorer, was fantastic. After prepping the bonfire, our host headed back to the vehicle, leaving us with:

  • A roaring fire.

  • A cooler full of black rum and ginger beer.

  • The sound of waves lapping the shore.

We spent the evening under the moon, sipping cocktails and enjoying each other’s company in total peace. It was exactly the “special little thing” I had been hoping to find.

What You Need to Know Before You Book

If you are considering this for your next trip, here are a few logistics to keep in mind:

  • The Location: The operator uses different beaches depending on group size and availability. Our bonfire was located near Daniel’s Head Island in Sandys Parish.

  • Booking: We booked through TripAdvisor and the experience was still available at the time of publication.

  • The Vibe: This is a low-key, romantic, or intimate group experience. Don’t expect a wild party; expect a core memory.

Final Thoughts

If you’re headed to Bermuda and looking for something a little unusual, I highly recommend this particular excursion. It’s the perfect way to escape the cruise crowds and see the island from a different perspective.
